Ann Williams Presents Research at 2016 Southern Regional Honors Council Conference

2016 May 9

Ann Williams of Grayson, Georgia, presented original research titled "Displaying History: How a Local Historical Society Portrays Their Community" at the 2016 Southern Regional Honors Council Conference.

Williams was among of group of students from Valdosta State University's Honors College who attended the 44th annual Southern Regional Honors Council Conference, which was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Orlando, Florida, and hosted by the University of West Florida. Inspired by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the theme was "The Magic of Honors."

During the three-day Southern Regional Honors Council Conference, the VSU students were able to network with and learn about the latest research being conducted by students at colleges and universities throughout the Southeastern United States. They were also able to expand their knowledge of the humanities during the keynote address presented by Carissa Baker, a professor at Seminole State College of Florida who teaches literature, writing, a Disney-focused humanities course, and interdisciplinary honors courses and conducts research in how theme parks tell stories.

The Southern Regional Honors Council's mission is to promote and advance the honors programs and honors colleges at 105 member institutions from 10 states - Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
