Beta Alpha Psi at VSU Advances to National Competition

Valdosta State University earned top honors at the 2017 Beta Alpha Psi Southeast Regional Meeting Best Practice Competition in Raleigh, N.C.

VSU's Mu Zeta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi placed first in the Leadership Development category. The organization will present at the 2017 Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting in Anaheim, Calif., Aug. 3-5.

VSU's Mu Zeta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi presented the impact of their on-campus and community service efforts, which included hosting networking and recognition events for finance and accounting majors and working with Habitat for Humanity, Voluntary Income Tax Assistance, American Red Cross, Relay for Life, and more.

VSU's nine-year winning streak began at the 2009 Best Practices Competition, when the chapter took first place in the Service Learning category. It continued with 2010's third place in the Ethics and Integrity category, 2011's third place in the Sustainability category, 2012's second place in the Change category and third place in the Social Networking category, 2013's first place in the Imagination category, 2014's second place in the Leadership category and third place in the Collaboration category, 2015's second place in the International Impact category, and 2016's first place in the Alignment of Officer Activities category.

VSU's Mu Zeta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi is committed to promoting the study and practice of accounting and finance; providing opportunities for self-development, service, and association among members and practicing professionals; and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. The chapter was founded in 2009.

Beta Alpha Psi is an international honor organization for financial information students and professionals. It is comprised of more than 300,000 members and 300 collegiate chapters that seek to encourage and recognize scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.

Beta Alpha Psi is open to all undergraduate and graduate students majoring in accounting and finance at VSU. National membership is available to students with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Students with a grade point average below 3.0 are encouraged to join as chapter members.
