Jesse Wayson Honored with President's Award for Academic Excellence at Valdosta State University

Jesse Wayson of Valdosta, Georgia, is the Spring 2016 President's Award for Academic Excellence recipient for the College of Arts and Sciences at Valdosta State University.

The President's Award for Academic Excellence is presented to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each of VSU's five colleges.

VSU will celebrate its 221st commencement on Saturday, May 7.

Wayson is scheduled to be honored at the College of Arts and Sciences convocation at 4 p.m. on the West Hall front lawn and to receive a Bachelor of Science in biology, with a minor in chemistry, at 8 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. He will serve as the official banner carrier for his college during commencement ceremonies.

As a student at VSU, Wayson was inducted into the Student Members of the American Chemical Society, served as president of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Health Preprofessional Honor Society, and earned the Department of Biology's Mack Varnedoe Greer Sr. M.D. Scholarship. In May 2014, he completed a study abroad to the Czech Republic.

Wayson plans to attend the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. He is the son of Cindy Wayson.
