Jesse Wayson of Valdosta, Georgia, received the 2015 Mack Varnedoe Greer Sr. M.D. Scholarship from the Department of Biology at Valdosta State University.

The Department of Biology is dedicated to excellence in teaching, pursuit of research, and service to the community. It provides a program of study that serves students pursuing a variety of careers in biology and the health science fields. Courses teach the basic principles of biology, develop student ability to understand and critically analyze biological issues, and provide in-depth coverage of the latest developments in the biological sciences.

Through research and technical assistance, the Department of Biology seeks to address critical biological issues and problems facing the region and the nation. The knowledge gained through research is disseminated to the professional and public sectors via formal publications and presentations.
