Lauren Metzger Honored with President's Award for Academic Excellence at Valdosta State University

Lauren Metzger of Valdosta, Georgia, is the Fall 2015 President's Award for Academic Excellence recipient for the College of Arts and Sciences at Valdosta State University.

The President's Award for Academic Excellence is presented to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each of VSU's five colleges.

Metzger is scheduled to receive a Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in Spanish, English, and religious studies at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in the VSU P.E. Complex. She will serve as the official banner carrier for the College of Arts and Sciences during the commencement ceremony.

As a student at VSU, Metzger was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Theta Alpha Kappa, the National Honor Society for Religious Studies and Theology. She volunteered with the English Language Institute's Conversation Partner Program. In 2014, she was named the Outstanding Student in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Metzger plans to continue her education after graduation and complete the courses needed to receive English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) certification. She is the daughter of Ruth McNally and Jim Metzger.
