Patricia Lawrence Honored with President's Award for Academic Excellence at Valdosta State University

Patricia Lawrence of Atlanta, Georgia, is the Spring 2016 President's Award for Academic Excellence recipient for the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration at Valdosta State University.

The President's Award for Academic Excellence is presented to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each of VSU's five colleges.

VSU will celebrate its 221st commencement on Saturday, May 7.

Lawrence is scheduled to be honored at the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration convocation at 1 p.m. on the Pound Hall front lawn and to receive a Bachelor of Business Administration in both accounting and finance at 8 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. She will serve as the official banner carrier for her college during commencement ceremonies.

As a student at VSU, Lawrence was inducted into the Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society, the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, and the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society. She was a HOPE scholar, a regular on the Dean's List, and an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, Habitat for Humanity, Enactus, the Black Student League, and Volunteer Services. She was awarded the Bank of America Academic Scholarship, the Phi Tau Omega Alpha Kappa Alpha Scholarship, and the Heritage Bank Scholarship.

Lawrence plans to pursue a Master of Accountancy degree. She hopes to secure employment with one of the top public accounting firms in the United States, preferably Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst and Young Accounting, or KPMG. She is the daughter of Mary Stubbs and Tracey and Yolanda Lawrence.
