Won Jae Jo of Gurye, Jeollanam-do, South Korea, is the recipient of the Fall 2025 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Science and Mathematics at Valdosta State University. He will be recognized during VSU's 240th Commencement at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, on the Main Campus Front Lawn. He will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and a Minor in Computer Science.

Grace Schaefer of Kingsland, Georgia, has earned the Fall 2025 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the College of the Arts at Valdosta State University. More than 450 students were named to Valdosta State University's Summer 2025 Dean's List. To qualify for Dean's List at VSU, students must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher. Please note that developmental studies, transient, and graduate students are not eligible for Dean's List status.

Fabiola Torres of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, partnered with Dr. Haley Sherman of the Department of Psychological Science at Valdosta State University to research the relationship between physical pain and psychological challenges in military-affiliated individuals. Throughout her study, she also questioned the role mindset plays in overall well-being.

Tyress McGauley of Waycross, Georgia, recently received a full scholarship and an invitation to spend eight days in the majestic redwoods of Northern California at Jazz Camp West. It was an opportunity for this talented drummer and Valdosta State University senior to learn from all-star artists committed to teaching him about music business entrepreneurship and helping him improve his technique as well as his performance and leadership skills.

Connor Bland and Pearce Persaud dedicated their summer term at Valdosta State University to studying moral injury in the healthcare system and identifying ways to address its contributing factors and help alleviate healthcare workers' psychological distress.

Ben Strickland's "No Limits No Refunds" is one of 95 films that will be screened during the seventh annual South Georgia Film Festival March 3-5 at Valdosta State University.

Andrew J. McCord of Roxboro, North Carolina, is the recipient of the 2022 Most Outstanding AS300 Cadet Award at Valdosta State University.

Mason Thompson graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, Minor in Entrepreneurship, and Minor in Aerospace Studies in May. His next stop is the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas.

A female duo from Valdosta State University's Debate Team took home the top prize at the University System of Georgia's inaugural Regents Cup Debate Series competition April 11.

Valdosta State University Enactus recently placed third at the Enactus United States 2023 National Exposition Early-Stage Competition at the University of Texas in Dallas.

Logan Spooner of Bainbridge, Georgia, has been fascinated with the fundamental structure of the universe since he was in the eighth grade at Bainbridge Middle School. He will earn a B.S. in Astronomy and a B.S. in Physics from Valdosta State University's College of Science and Mathematics on May 4. Afterwards he plans to continue his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he will pursue a Ph.D. in physics as a presidential fellow. He says his time at VSU has prepared him well for the academic and professional challenges he will face in graduate school and beyond.

Nine students in Valdosta State University's JOUR 3080: Editing for Publications course, including Kaneathia Kendrick of Daytona Beach, Florida, have earned the coveted Poynter ACES Certificate in Editing.

Samuel Nicolas, a Valdosta State University student from Lauderhill, Florida, recently completed a summer internship with Verizon. He spent 10 weeks working in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, with the Human Resource Experience and Insight unit for Verizon's new HR Answers.

Carlyn Seese of Douglasville, Georgia, is the recipient of a scholarship from the Scottish Rite Foundation of Georgia Inc. Seese anticipates earning a Master of Education in Communication Disorders from Valdosta State University in May 2024. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in Communication Disorders from VSU in May 2022.

Leann Brown of Douglas, Georgia, is Valdosta State University's 2023 Graduate Assistant of the Year.

Summer Dee of Monticello, Florida, is the recipient of a scholarship from the Scottish Rite Foundation of Georgia Inc. Dee anticipates earning a Master of Education in Communication Disorders from Valdosta State University in December 2023. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in Communication Disorders from VSU in May 2022.
