Tyress McGauley of Waycross, Georgia, recently received a full scholarship and an invitation to spend eight days in the majestic redwoods of Northern California at Jazz Camp West. It was an opportunity for this talented drummer and Valdosta State University senior to learn from all-star artists committed to teaching him about music business entrepreneurship and helping him improve his technique as well as his performance and leadership skills.

Hunter Pope's "Fetish Series" won third place in the juried art competition at the 44th annual Southern Regional Honors Council Conference. The award-winning photographs were captured on black and white film, in studio and on location, using a manual Pentax K1000 camera with a 50-millimeter (f/2.0) lens.

Dane Pelavin's "Blazers," a 28-inch by 18-inch scanned negative and inkjet canvas print, won a merit award at the 18th annual Juried Student Art Competition sponsored by Valdosta State University's Department of Art. The award-winning artwork was recently featured in an exhibit at the on-campus Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.

The seven-member Valdosta State University Honors Jazz Combo will introduce East Asia to the unique sounds of the American art form of jazz when it travels to China March 9-17.

The Fairburn, Georgia, resident's award-winning design was recently featured in an exhibit at the on-campus Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.

Elana Harper's "Morpha," a copper box with clay cicada shells, won a merit award at the 18th annual Juried Student Art Competition sponsored by Valdosta State University's Department of Art. The Nashville, Georgia, resident's award-winning artwork was recently featured in an exhibit at the on-campus Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.

Bryce France's "Dejection," a 24-inch by 36-inch digital photograph, won a merit award at the 18th annual Juried Student Art Competition sponsored by Valdosta State University's Department of Art. Casey O'Kelley's "Self-Portrait," a 3-foot by 4-foot acrylic on paper and newspaper clippings, won fourth place at the 18th annual Juried Student Art Competition sponsored by Valdosta State University's Department of Art. Tatiana Tsaruk's "Vera Wang Bridal Boutique and Apartment," a 24-inch by 36-inch interior design presentation board created with Sketch Up, Auto Cad, and Photoshop, won third place at the 18th annual Juried Student Art Competition sponsored by Valdosta State University's Department of Art. The award-winning design was recently featured in an exhibit at the on-campus Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.

Michael LaGon's "They Pee Weird" and "Forms of Deterrence," both 17-inch by 22-inch pen and ink drawings, won second place at the 18th annual Juried Student Art Competition sponsored by Valdosta State University's Department of Art. The award-winning artwork was recently featured in an exhibit at the on-campus Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.

Caleb Brown's Condemned, an 8-inch by 10-inch gelatin silver print inspired by the concept of restraint, won first place at the 18th annual Juried Student Art Competition sponsored by Valdosta State University's Department of Art. The award-winning photograph was recently featured in an exhibit at the on-campus Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.

Valdosta State University's Hunter Howle, a 20-year-old mass media major from Port Richey, Fla., won College Documentary of the Year at the 2015 Great American NO BULL Challenge Teen Video Awards in Los Angeles, Calif.
