Skylar Grinnell-Meeler recently presented "Silenced Sportswomen: An Evaluation of Muted Group Theory in Sports and How Roller Derby Challenges and Reinvents the Ideas of Gender in the Sports Industry" during Valdosta State University's 2022 Prosper Tsikata Graduate Colloquium.

More than 1,700 students were named to Valdosta State University's Fall 2021 Dean's List. To qualify for Dean's List at VSU, students must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher. Please note that developmental studies, transient, and graduate students are not eligible for Dean's List status.

Lauren Elizabeth Brewer of Valdosta, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2021 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services at Valdosta State University. She will graduate magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Education and the certification needed to teach students in prekindergarten through fifth grade during VSU's 232nd Commencement.

Danielle McKay's "Recycling of Iron Oxide for Photoelectrochemical Cells" earned the Best Poster Award (first place) at the 2021 Herty Medalist Undergraduate Research Symposium organized by the Atlanta section of the American Chemical Society.

Valdosta State University is proud to offer scholarships to nearly 300 currently enrolled, incoming first-year, and transfer students for the 2021-2022 academic year. These scholarships were established by private donors and are awarded each year by VSU Foundation Inc. to students with excellent academic achievement and/or students with financial need. Each recipient represents the high standards of the university.

Danielle McKay is not the same student she was when the year began. She is smarter, more confident, and more motivated to want to make a difference. After earning the American Chemical Society's Student Leadership Award in December 2020, McKay was invited to participate in the organization's invitation-only Leadership Institute Experience. The nine-month engagement kicked off in January, with a promise to help students like McKay continue learning, developing, and training to become effective and influential leaders.
