Autumn Paige Wibright of Valdosta, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2021 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Valdosta State University. She will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, with concentrations in English, Political Science, and Sociology, and an Honors College Certificate during VSU's 232nd Commencement.

Alexander "Alex" Gomez of Cairo, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2021 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Science and Mathematics at Valdosta State University. He will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry during VSU's 232nd Commencement.

Kyleigh Gail Reedy of Middleburg, Florida, is the recipient of the Fall 2021 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Valdosta State University. She will graduate magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and an Honors College Certificate during VSU's 232nd Commencement.

Marisa Delfina Kimberlee Lauer of New Port Richey, Florida, is the recipient of the Fall 2021 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the College of the Arts at Valdosta State University. She will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance during VSU's 232nd Commencement.

Lauren Elizabeth Brewer of Valdosta, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2021 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services at Valdosta State University. She will graduate magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Education and the certification needed to teach students in prekindergarten through fifth grade during VSU's 232nd Commencement.

Danielle McKay's "Recycling of Iron Oxide for Photoelectrochemical Cells" earned the Best Poster Award (first place) at the 2021 Herty Medalist Undergraduate Research Symposium organized by the Atlanta section of the American Chemical Society.

Danielle McKay is not the same student she was when the year began. She is smarter, more confident, and more motivated to want to make a difference. After earning the American Chemical Society's Student Leadership Award in December 2020, McKay was invited to participate in the organization's invitation-only Leadership Institute Experience. The nine-month engagement kicked off in January, with a promise to help students like McKay continue learning, developing, and training to become effective and influential leaders.

Valdosta State University is proud to offer scholarships to nearly 300 currently enrolled, incoming first-year, and transfer students for the 2021-2022 academic year. These scholarships were established by private donors and are awarded each year by VSU Foundation Inc. to students with excellent academic achievement and/or students with financial need. Each recipient represents the high standards of the university.

To qualify for Dean's List at VSU, students must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher. Please note that developmental studies, transient, and graduate students are not eligible for Dean's List status.

Jonathan E. Bridenbaker of Gulfport, Mississippi, recently presented "Gun Girl: Kaitlin Bennett, Free Speech, and Mythmaking" during Valdosta State University's 2021 Prosper Tsikata Graduate Colloquium.

Matthew B. Rorer of Columbus, Georgia, recently presented "New Age of Online Image Crisis: Influencers" during Valdosta State University's 2021 Prosper Tsikata Graduate Colloquium.

Lauren A. Corley of Cairo, Georgia, recently presented "Making an Effort: Evaluating USA Gymnastics' Corporate Social Responsibility Following Negligence and Scandal" during Valdosta State University's 2021 Prosper Tsikata Graduate Colloquium.

An elite group of 40-plus graduate students were nominated by faculty in their various academic disciplines to present at VSU's 2021 Graduate Student Research and Scholarship Symposium, which was held on a virtual platform due to COVID-19. Six of those students earned top awards for their first-class research and scholarship.
